What They Are
Spider veins are small, red, purple and blue vessels that are easily visible through the skin. They show up in clusters usually around the nose, cheeks, chin, legs and ankles causing a ruddy appearance. Some people feel self-conscious if spider veins appear, and either tend to use foundation and concealer to cover them on the face, or if they appear on the legs they avoid wearing skirts or bathing suits.
What Causes Them
The cause of spider veins can be attributed to several factors, the most common being hereditary, occupations that demand long hours standing, hormonal influences, birth control, or certain trauma, or injury to the skin.
Treatment
Using the ND Yag laser, the settings are optimized to target the hemoglobin in the spider vessels and using a series of little pulses the laser destroys the vessels on contact causing them to be less visible or disappear as the body reabsorbs the tiny vessels. Depending on how many vessels need to be treated, the sessions can last from 5 to 30 minutes.
